Awesome piece of equipment

I've been looking for a proper saddle bag for a long time, and JRC Hokan is the first one that did not disappoint me. It is very well made and proper in size. Couldn't imagine better bag.

Perfect for long rides and looks amazing

Bought this as soon as I saw it released a couple of months ago and it’s exactly what I was looking for. It’s small enough to stay out of the way, but still fits all the essentials—2x road tube, CO2, tire levers, and multi tool, with practically no waste-space.

Super slimline design compared to any other saddle bags i've used in the past

Attaches and removes super easily; really quick to slacken off the dial and get at whatever you need really fast with the length of the zipper.

Overall, it’s a very high quality product, i'll be buying more for my other bikes, big thumbs up from me 👌

Nice idea, poor execution for first model - should have waited for v2

For the price I'd hoped this was an upgrade to my Silca Asymmetrico. I should have bought the Mattone.

1. The nylon strap is too long to cinch the bag down when it's not packed completely full. If you care about grams / aero you have TPU tubes. 2 TPU 35c tubes, 2 Levers, a chain breaker multi tool, two CO2s + Head, Chain link, tyre boot, spare bacon strips, pair of gloves, removable thru axle lever - the bag is half full and rattles around on the saddle. Maybe it'll work better with 2 MTB tubes.

2. Because the bag is too big for its contents it's much less 'aero' than it looks in the picture and sticks out.

3. Because the strap is too wide, it doesn't fit properly on a modern race fit (aka with saddles forward in the rails). It's like it was designed for someone who has a frame too small for them and so needs their saddle all the way back.

4. The clip for the end of the cable is really hard to remove. I've had to use a tool to unclip it every time and if you use the cable to pull on it the cable comes unthreaded and it takes 5 mins of fiddling to put back. Temporary solution is to add a zipper pull from a jacket to the end, which now flaps in the wind.

5. Because they used a cheap ATOP dial rather than a boa, you can't crank it down properly. The BOA on the Silva pack you could almost crank until the cable cut through the pack. This one stops tightening so loose I can get my finger between the rails and the pack and it bounces everywhere. Maybe again it's better if you stick cheap shit butyl tubes in - but then why are you buying a £50 aero seat pack?

6. Because of the way they've chosen to run the boa, it's no less fiddly to get on / off as a Silca Asymmetrico. I had hoped this was something I could get off, seal problem and get going in a race / gran fondo. Not a chance - you'll be dropped with not recovery.

In short - if it wasn't international shipping and I hadn't damaged the cardboard mount it came in (almost impossible not to) I'd have just asked for a refund immediately.

To JRC for v2: 1. Smaller bag by 20%. 2, pony up for a boa. 3, run the cord over the rails not a crap plastic wide strap - dyneema cord wont scratch saddle rails.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear that the bag hasn’t fully met your expectations.

From what you’ve described, it seems that a lot of the issues mentioned (#1, #2, and #5) stem from the bag being too big for your needs, even though the dimensions are clearly listed on the product description.

#2: No photoshopping has been done to the image (aside from background removal), so it shouldn’t appear physically larger compared to the real product.

#3: There should be plenty of room on the back of most saddles to fit properly with a neutral position which can be seen with examples in both saddles on our product listing. I see you are using a PRO Stealth saddle; we don't have any specific feedback on this, but it may be due to the shape of the back of the saddle rails causing it to kink.

#4: If you can send us images of this issue, we’d like to investigate further. It shouldn’t be the case that a tool is required to open the bag. It’s possible that the nylon fabric may be slightly overlapping the entry point, causing a tighter fit than normal. Additionally, the zipper should not be flapping considering it sits under the reflective flap.

#5: By way of note, the cost price of our ATOP dials is most likely more expensive than a standard BOA dial but we have still chosen it for multiple reasons and again the difficulty with a tight fit sounds like its being caused more so by a loose bag than the ATOP dial. Also to note here, the bag RRP adjusted in STG is more like £40, not £50.

#6: The strap runs across the bag rather than over the saddle rails for good reason and has been taken up by many other leading brands.
It creates a tighter fit and from our tests its also quicker to get on and off. We previously in fact had a bag which wrapped around the width of the rails. The precuationary measure here is not the possibility of saddle rail damage from the dyneema, but in fact the reverse; the chance of abrasion on the dyneema cord when wrapped around the rails can lead to it snapping and result in a lost saddle bag. Quite often its due to it being in contact with something marginally sharp (like threads of a seatpost bolt) unbeknownst to the rider.

If you'd like to return the bag, the broken cardboard hangtag isn’t an issue; we can replace it, and you are still eligible for a refund.

We wanted to provide this additional perspective from our side, and we appreciate your feedback nonetheless. We may introduce a smaller, more compact size in the future.

Feel free to reach out at info@jrc-components.com if we can assist further.

Best regards,
The JRC Components Team
