  • Do the pulleys require any maintenance?

In general very little maintenance is required for our pulleys due to both the seals and thick grease which is pre-applied. If you would like to keep them fresh after heavy use, or long mileage and you are confident in peeling back the bearing seals with a scalpel or similar sharp blade, the bearings can be lubricated with a slightly thicker grease, such as lithium grease. Generally this is a good consistency for the bearings.

Will the anodising wear off after use?

Because the tips of the teeth on the pulleys are coming into contact most frequently with the chain, slight visibility of the raw aluminium colour can be expected after consistent use. This will not gradually expand in size however and will only be apparent on the very end of the pulleys at the contact points. Once the pulleys are kept clean, the overall colour of the body will not change over time.

Are the pulley wheels noisier than stock plastic pulleys?

While we dont have a lab based conclusion for this, measuring comparative sound levels, the level of noise when compared to stock plastic pulley wheels should be unnoticeable on a well maintained, lubricated drivetrain.

Will these work with my specific groupset?

Our 11T pulleys are intended for use with a wide variety of groupsets however they don't fit everything. For further clarification about compatibility with your specific groupset, please use our Pulley Selector Tool.

    Not turning smooth

It’s not a real update for the stock Shimano Pully wheels

    Hi Tommy,

Sorry to hear you feel this is the case. I see you mention its not turning smooth, if this is truly the case, please email us at info@jrc-components.com

My guess however if that you're referring to the fact that it does not spin for minutes at a time.

We are quite transparent in the product description that these bearings are both sealed and greased. This is in stark contrast to many other brands who run bearings without proper bearing seals. They pair this with light lubricant rather than thicker grease which also makes it super easy for water to pentrate. On the other hand, our pulleys dont spin for minutes at a time because instead of this sales tactic, we focus far more on longevity and maintaining a smooth bearing throughout. It is also important to distinguish between a 'smooth' bearing and a 'free spinning' moving. Our bearings are certainly smooth, but not free spinning given the grease & seals.

To conclude, we far prefer to focus on the quality of the pulleys rather than engage in what we believe is a marketing ploy where pulleys spin perpetually for minutes at a time and serve no such performance gain in real life scenarios as documented in many independent tests.

If you have further difficulties please feel free to reach out and we'll be happy to help.

Give some color to usually black spots on your bike 😎

I ordered the pulley wheels together with a low profile Garmin mount, a pair of bottle cages and handle bar tape in the same color. The entire setup together in the same looks great. Quality also 👍. also thanks for the information/installation sheet coming with it.
Pasted some pics on strava to the JRC-Strava group. Thanks JRC, Thanks Jerry
